Science

This month is FULL of science. We will continue to work on Force and motion. What is force? What is motion? Can you discover how we use force and motion in our daily lives? We will also research a variety animals. What do animals need to survive? Can we see any patterns in their lives?

Music

music w kids.jpg

Kindergarteners at Silver Oak participate in an interactive music learning experience through the sounds of drums and percussion. Donations to the PTO make it possible for Silver Oak students to enjoy music teacher James Henry, who visits our kindergartner classrooms 10 times a year. Mr. Henry is a San Francisco artist recognized among his peers in the music industry. He has composed TV & film scores, touring the world with Columbia recording artist Pablo Cruise, and collaborating with other great artists including Taj Mahal, Robben Ford, Sly Stone, Buddy Miles, Merle Saunders, Pete Escovedo and Tom Jones. To learn more about James Henry visit sambasamba.com.

Art

boy art.jpgArts Attack, a video-based art curriculum system, is used in all our kindergarten classes. Funded by parents' donations to PTO, this award winning program is designed to teach each child how to express themselves through art and see and experience the world in different ways. The language of art, like the language of words, requires the learning of skills and concepts that will allow the free flow of expression. The goals of ARTS ATTACK are to teach the elements and principles of art and drawing in a developmental and sequential way, as well as to study the art of other artists, cultures and historical periods.

Field Trips

Field Trip.png

We take four kindergarten field trips throughout the year. Our field trips support and enrich our science and social studies curriculum.

Usegi Farms Pumpkin Patch - October 20, 2015

Our first field trip will be to Useugi Farms Pumpkin Patch in October.  We will be learning about the pumpkin life cycle and then visiting the farm to see this life cycle up close.

Hidden Villa Farm - March 2016

This field trip to Hidden Villa Farm in Los Altos gives us a chance to study social studies and science.  We will learn where and how we get our food at this 1200 acre organic farm.

Transportation - April 15, 2016

Social studies and various forms of transportation are the focus of this fun field trip.  We will travel by bus and train to Palo Alto and visit the park.

San Francisco Zoo - May 17, 2016

We study science, animals and their adaptations during our trip to the San Francisco Zoo which covers 100 acres and has over 260 species of animals.
